While in New York last week, Iranian president Ahmadinejad seemed to  offer to stop producing highly enriched uranium. In a Bloggingheads.tv diavlog, Iran experts Barbara Slavin of the Atlantic Council and Suzanne Maloney of the Brookings Saban Center debate whether the Obama administration is missing an opportunity to enter serious negotiations with Tehran:

Slavin and Maloney also discuss how serious the now-famous 2003 outreach from Iran was, and whether it was a missed opportunity for the Bush administration:

Negotiations?

Is this guy a joke?? Iran has forged pacts with insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. Continues to funnel money to Hamas and Hezbollah and continues to build its nuclear weapons program.

Any negotiations will be in bad faith, and simply used by Iran to stall for more time.

If Iran wants to negotiate, THEY NEED to extend their hand. Not the other way around. Iran can be an Islamic oppressive state, but if they infringe on our allies (Israel, Gulf States), she must be stopped and put in her place.

For the sake of the Persian people. Had we acted sooner perhaps a military intervention would not be necessary. But now it's only a matter of time before Israel acts.
